The Korean Association of Translation Studies (KATS) was founded on Oct. 31, 1999, just before the turn of the 21st century, when Translation Studies was not fully accepted yet as an independent and legitimate academic field in South Korea. We have successfully recruited a number of scholars and translators interested in this field, and have offered them opportunities to publish their valuable works in our conferences and journals. Now the KATS has grown as one of the top-class academic circles in terms of both quality and quantity in just fifteen years. We are deeply indebted to the former presidents and staff members, not to speak of all the members who have contributed to the remarkable development of the association.
On October 17-18, 2014,we will co-host an international conference in collaboration with ERITS (Ewha Research Institute for Translation Studies) of Ewha Womans University, one of the leading institutions of higher education in Korea. We have already invited some world-renowned scholars to the conference: Daniel Gile from France, Douglas Robinson from Hong Kong, and Minhua Liu from the U.S.
We would like to encourage fellow scholars and professors from all over the world to respond to our call for papers and join us in this academic feast. We will meet and share our common interests here in Korea. Fortunately, the conference is to be held in autumn, which is considered as the best season to visit Seoul and admire the beautiful scenary of Korea.
Thank you very much for visiting our homepage and your sincere interest in our association. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.
